6 date ideas in Grand Rapids

  1. Grab a tube and go floatin’.

There is a reason Grand Rapids has its name. Ever tied yourself up to your significant other and went for a float down the Grand River? It’s relaxing, it’s fun, and you might even get yourself a nice tan. Grab a couple tubes and a waterproof speaker, stock up on snacks and other beverages, and set out for a day full of love and fun in the sun.

  1. Have a good throwing arm? Go Fowling!

You may have heard or seen that fowling is one of our backyard bananza games, but did you know you can go play right here in Grand Rapids? This one is great for those of you who want to show off your skills to your date. Fowling is a combination of bowling and football. It goes a little something like this: you vs. your partner throwing footballs at each other’s pins. The first one to knock down those pins gets a point and ultimate bragging rights. There’s also a full bar right next to all the fun!

  1. Visit Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park.

Guys, seriously. We have a place right outside of Grand Rapids where you and your date can go and feed/pet wild animals such as giraffes, kangaroos, camels, and many others. How cool would that be for the animal lovers out there? Forget buying a plane ticket to out of the country, pay for a cheap admission and love on some animals.

  1. Get a group date going and join Urban Miditarod.

There are so many great events to join in on in Grand Rapids. Urban Miditarod is an epic 5k race that combines a scavenger hunt, costume contest, and pub crawl. This race is to be hosted in downtown Grand Rapids on August 4th, and is going to have an awesome after party as well. Events like this would make a perfect double date opportunity to break the ice. Sign up here.

  1. Get your golf game on

Grand Rapids has is pretty great when it comes to golf options. Have a rusty arm from the winter still? Grab your date and go hit some golf balls at the range or play 9 holes at one of the local courses such as Thornapple Pointe Golf Course or The Meadows!

  1. Swing dance in Rosa Parks Circle

You don’t even need to be  a good dancer. In fact, joining in on the fun of swing dancing while being a horrible dancer radiates confidence and energy. Ladies, put on your heels and fellas wear your dancing shoes, because this will make your date dancing for more.

Stop the Press!  You’re going to want to read this if you missed it in last week’s newsletter!

You’ve probably heard about the Alaskan “Iditarod” race with dogs and sleds and whatnot;

Well, this is nothing at all like that.

Instead of dogs, it’s people.  Instead of a sled, it’s a shopping cart. Instead of winter gear, it’s costumes.  Yeah, it’s going to be awesome.

Where: Heartside Park, Downtown Grand Rapids.

When:  Saturday, August 4th, 2018

Who:  600-1,000 racers (4-6 people/team)

We’ve got 5-6 charities that are benefiting.  We are incorporating 5-6 local bars, and we’ve got the green flag from the City to do this!

Racers will navigate the pedestrian ways of downtown as they use clues to search for their next checkpoint (a pub).  They have a mandatory 20-min wait at each checkpoint to ‘re-hydrate’ their ‘doggies’.  There isn’t any order of what bars to hit and there isn’t any dedicated route.  It’s all on them.  It’s all urban.

Trust us when we say it is going to be huge.
